1 Corinthians 10:1-12 1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Why does this scare me? They were surrounded by God at every corner. He was with them wherever they went, and even with His presence like it was, they were still lusting after evil things, they were still commiting every sin kown to man, if you read the above verses. What happened? They were destroyed of serpents. We know that a serpent respresents satan, so because of their sin, satan destroyed them. There are a lot of christians who think they are standing for Christ, when in reality they are living for themselves People get secure in their sin and sinfulness. If the deathblow doesn't get them right away, or if they seem to get away with something for awhile, they get a false sense of security. It is like the ignorant person living on top of a volcano and thinking all is well. What does scripture tell us? 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. -Matthew 7:21-23
